Crosspointes: Intersections of Faith and Leadership

Diocese > The Iona Center

Just as Moses, in obedience, laid down his staff for the Pharaoh to demonstrate the majesty of God, we too have laid down staffs and preconceived notions about what leadership training is and how it ‘ought to be’ done. The Iona Center of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, with a vision for an ever-expanding team of Christ-centered lay leaders and clergy, has created a systemic learning program to develop, train, and commission large numbers of transformational leaders for the Church.

Rather than a traditional skill-building approach with a fixed beginning and end, Crosspointes: Intersections of Faith and Leadership embraces a dynamic experience for building leadership competencies.  This ongoing approach strives to develop a culture in the Church of spiritually mature, Christ-centered and called leaders who will, in turn, develop other leaders. This replicating model has the power to energize individuals, congregations and the whole Church on an exponentially expanding scale.

The individual’s Crosspointes experience begins with a Charter Weekend which focuses on the leader’s call to Christian maturity.  It incorporates experiential and story-based learning.  The Charter Weekend is led by a team of trained instructors and is held at various locations around the diocese.

Throughout the Charter Weekend the participant is introduced to several key leadership elements:

  • Relational Power
  • Servant Leadership
  • Contextual Awareness
  • Communication
  • Leading Change
  • Vision to Action

These 6 keys are presented in a variety of ways: videos, small groups, individual reflection and other multi-media resources designed for multiple learning styles and diverse needs.

Crosspointes is distinguished by a foundation of story and case-study application.  Like Jesus who taught in parables, the instructional design of the Charter Weekend includes transformational stories of real leaders who have already made the journey, been refined by the fire, and are living out their leadership calling.

The next Charter Weekend is scheduled for September 23-24, 2011 at St. Aidan's, Cypress.  Click here for registration form.  Click here for map to St. Aidan's, Cypress.
