ECW Endowment Fund and Honored Women Program

Episcopal Church Women, A Legacy of Mission and Ministry Continues...

100 years of mission and ministry have been a powerful witness of the significant work of the women of the Diocese of Texas.  With the help of generous donors, their love and commitment to Jesus Christ have resulted in:

  • Millions of dollars raised for outreach grants by the United Thank Offering
  • Numerous scholarships given to Episcopal women through the Vera Gang Scott Scholarship Fund
  • Financial support for seminarians through the Bishop Kinsolving Memorial Fund
  • Education, training, and spiritual enrichment for women through workshops, conferences, annual retreats and special events
  • A strong network of communication for women in the diocese
  • Direct financial grants to outreach ministries
  • A deepening commitment to lay ministry through ECW related ministries

ECW Honored Women Recognition

Each year the board accepts nominations for the Honored Women Program. Women should be nominated for outstanding service to their parish or to honor a birthday or special occasion. Any parish can nominate women for this honor. The recommended contribution to the ECW Endowment fund is $100 per honoree.  Each woman honored will receive a calligraphed certificate to be presented to her by the parish, and will be announced at the ECW Annual Retreat in October. For more information, please contact your convocational coordinator or ECW Endowment Fund Chair, Nancy Dalton

Vera Gang Scott Scholarship Fund

The Vera Gang Scholarship Fund was started in 1972 by the ECW Board of the Diocese of Texas with a gift - her life's savings - from Vera Gang Scott. In the 1920's Ms. Scott received aid for her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the women of Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston. She kept careful track of all the money she received. After starting work as a social worker, she repaid every cent, and that money became the seed for the Vera Gang Scott Scholarship Fund. Ms. Scott's dream was to help others just as she had been helped.  Although she lived in many states, Ms. Scott always considered herself a Texan. She led an active life as an educator and continued to be involved in service to others. Vera Gang Scott was very proud that a school was named after her in Colorado Springs.

The scholarship eligibility requirements are: 1) A female communicant in good standing, 2) Acceptance or enrollment in a academic institution of college rank, 3) Pursuing professional certification or a degree from an accredited institution, and 4) Ability to show real financial need. Bishop Kinsolving Memorial Fund

Founded in 1929, the Bishop Kinsolving Memorial Fund is an entity of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and primarily provides scholarships to seminarians sponsored by the Diocese. Funds are donated as a living memorial in the name of a loved one or friend. That person’s name is inscribed in the Book of Remembrance. Donations are invested by the Diocese and only the interest is used for scholarships. It is overseen by the ECW.

This fund provides a permanent, living memorial for your loved one while assisting seminarians that are called to serve the Lord as His priests. Recipients of the scholarship are chosen by the Diocesan Bishop.

For more information, please contact the Rt. Rev. Dena Harrison.
