Community of Hope

The Central Office for The Community of Hope is located at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston under the direction of the Reverend Bob Wells.

The Mission of the Community of Hope is to help create Christian communities of volunteer lay pastoral care givers (often called lay chaplains ) united in prayer, shaped by Benedictine spirituality, and equipped for and serving in pastoral care ministries.

Founded in 1994 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Houston, 110 Community of Hope Centers have trained 2600 lay pastoral care providers. As a result of the ministry, during fiscal year 2002-2003, Community of Hope “lay chaplains” served 124.656 persons and offered 73,882 hours of service.

Normally a Community of Hope Center in congregation or organization has a Leadership team of three of four people and will offer annually a 14 module Initial Training Program, monthly Circle of Care meetings, and regular opportunities for pastoral care.

Faith Alive!

Faith Alive! is a witnessing fellowship in which lay people share their faith with a congregational family in small group interaction to complement and strengthen the congregation’s path to spiritual discovery, ease in sharing their faith and provide a medium for greater levels of commitment to the Lord.
