COBM went to the Ensemble Theatre for Black History Month

Jesus commands that disciples be made of all nations. “There is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!” (Col 3:11) God’s Kingdom includes “every nation and tribe and language and people.” (Rev 14:6) Racism, therefore, is a barrier to Biblical evangelism, obedient discipleship and abundant living. Christ died to reconcile all people to Himself. Our emphasis on racial reconciliation is deeply rooted in the inclusivity of the Kingdom of God. The Diocese of Texas is One Church reconciled by Jesus Christ building the Kingdom of God together.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Commission on Black Ministry is an outreach ministry for the clergy and laity to promote awareness and education of racial and cultural concerns, and to allow the opportunity for reconciliation for all people within the Diocese of Texas.
VISION STATEMENT
The Commission on Black Ministry will cooperate with the diocesan staff and other diocesan commissions and organizations, to uniquely focus and strengthen the diocese’s efforts to increase the level of Black leadership among clergy and laity.
GOALS
- To develop and complete a teaching series that shares the legacy of Black ministry in the diocese by December 2012.
- To continue ongoing efforts to increase the visibility and effectiveness of the Commission on Black Ministry by having presence at Diocesan Council, Clergy Conferences, and other venues as part of the larger strategic plan supporting the ministry of lifelong Christian formation.
- To sponsor Blacks to attend diocesan and national activities. This will include Camp Allen and other educational and religious venues.
- To develop a joint strategic plan with the Diocese of Texas that focuses on the improvement of Black clergy and laity leadership.
