The Very Rev. Dr. Paul F. M. Zahl - Discussion Questions

  1. Dr. Zahl says that the church must learn to make the “great notions” of Christianity simple and digestible.  How might you summarize the Christian Gospel in this manner? 
                   

  2. Dr. Zahl summarizes the Christian message using the words the angel spoke to Dr. Eben Alexander: “You are infinitely precious (creation), there is nothing to fear (atonement) and you can do nothing wrong (hope/sanctification).”  Do you agree with these three points?  Which ones, if any, give you pause?
                   

  3. Dr. Zahl suggests that only when we realize that there is nothing we have to do are we actually free to “do” in a way that is pleasing to God.  Is this a new concept to you?  Do you agree with it?
