Bishop Doyle Announces New Transition Minister

Bishop Andy Doyle is pleased to announce the call of the Rev. Wm. Blake Rider as Diocesan Transition Minister. Rider will return to the Diocese of Texas and join the staff in the position currently held by the Rev. Francene Young. Young previously retired as an executive at Shell Oil. She plans to return to retirement at the end of January to focus on leadership of the Commission on Ministry and on several non-profit boards, as well as ministry as the bi-vocational rector of St. Luke the Evangelist, Houston. 

Rider comes to the Diocese of Texas with a depth of experience in diocesan and congregational ministry. Most recently Blake served as Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of New York. During his five years in that position he assisted The Rt. Rev. Andy Dietsche in the development and execution of a strategic plan that resulted in a reorganization of the bishop's staff and diocesan structure.

Prior to attending Virginia Theological Seminary (2001-2004) Blake was an active layperson in Houston area parishes for twenty years, having attended St. John the Divine, Church of the Epiphany, St. Stephen's, Houston, and Christ the King, Alief. He was sponsored to the priesthood by St. Stephen's. Prior to attending seminary he worked in the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma and Texas, also working and living in Karachi, Pakistan and Tunisia for five years.

Blake is a native of Oklahoma and a member of the Cherokee Nation. He received his undergraduate education at Oral Roberts University.
