Galveston's Grand 1894 Opera House to Present "Doubt," March 9

When a strong-minded woman is faced with a difficult decision, should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues? This dilemma unfolds on stage as Montana Repertory Theater brings the gripping and mysterious Doubt to Galveston's Grand 1894 Opera House on Friday, March 9 at 8 p.m.

Doubt is as timely a subject today as its 1964 setting in a Bronx Catholic school where the principal, Sister Aloysius, struggles with the question, "What do you do when you're not sure?" as she becomes suspicious of charismatic and young Father Flynn. Is he using his positions as teacher and coach to encourage youngsters or to take advantage of them? By speaking up, would Sister Aloysius be protecting students from harm or would she be falsely accusing an innocent man of shocking betrayal and trust? Audiences soon learn that little is certain in John Patrick Shanley's brilliant, aptly titled play.

Winner of the 2005 "Pulitzer Prize for Drama," five "Drama Desk Awards," and seven Tonys, including "Best Play," Doubt has enthralled and stunned audiences while garnering critical acclaim since its initial sold-out production off-Broadway in 2004. It went on to Broadway and was adapted for the screen in 2008 starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams.

Ticket prices start at $22.00. Special discounts for group and senior tickets may be available.  For information about this and other performances scheduled, contact The Grand’s box office at 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or visit The Grand’s website at
