St. Mark’s, Houston, Celebrates Author Cameron Dezen Hammon

Communications and Music Director Doubles as Award-winning Writer

St. Mark’s celebrates Cameron Dezen Hammon, the communications turns 5 p.m. music director for the church, for winning the 2019 Discovery Prize in Nonfiction from the Writers’ League of Texas. Her debut memoir, This is My Body: A Memoir of Religious and Romantic Obsession, the awarded book, was published in October of last year and is celebrated for its fresh voice and inventive story.

The book was also awarded a bronze IPPY in Creative Nonfiction and named a finalist for Foreword’s Book of the Year Award in Autobiography and Memoir. Notably, it was also recommended by Brené Brown in her 2019 roundup of Fall Book Love.

Cameron has taught creative writing at Writers in the Schools Houston, InPrint Houston, Hugo House, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Duke Divinity, and Lone Star College Kingwood.
