Celebrating Community, Culture, and Continuity

Two congregations in the Diocese of Texas recently marked important milestones. Each one reflecting the evolving, dynamic nature of their communities and the impact they continue to have beyond their walls.

St. Alban’s, Houston Episcopal Church — 80 Years of multicultural love

St. Alban’s, Houston Episcopal Church celebrated its 80th anniversary with an event full of life, color, and connection. The gathering brought together people of all ages and backgrounds for a joyful day of shared traditions.

Families prepared dishes from across the Americas and the Caribbean, representing countries like the United States, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Haiti, and more. The result was a vibrant multicultural feast: a reflection of the congregation’s diversity and spirit of hospitality.

The celebration also included the dedication of Ruth’s Rose Garden, created in memory of longtime member Ruth Ann Grantham. Designed as a place for reflection, the garden is a tribute to her legacy and to the many individuals whose quiet contributions shape community life.

These anniversaries are a reminder that institutions thrive when they stay connected to their roots while continuing to grow and adapt. Whether through a shared meal, a new garden, or long-standing outreach programs, these communities are shaping what it means to belong, to serve, and to celebrate something greater than themselves.
