The Episcopal Diocese of Texas welcomed bishops from across The Episcopal Church for the House of Bishops’ fall gathering. Some began their time together at the diocesan office in Houston with Conflict Tools Training, creating space for learning, conversation, and shared leadership. The gathering then continued at Camp Allen in Navasota.
On September 25, Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally joined the bishops at Camp Allen. Texas was the first stop on her first U.S. visit as archbishop of Canterbury.
Reflecting on the welcome she has received at Anglican churches around the world, Mullally said, “it has been a reminder to me that we’re family.” She also spoke about the role bishops can play in a divided world: “Any bishop across the world, we are called to be figures of unity, and we’re called to be people of peace,” Mullally told ENS. She went on to emphasize the importance of churches creating spaces for unity and building relationships across the Anglican Communion.
The visit gave bishops an opportunity to strengthen the relationships that connect The Episcopal Church with the wider Anglican Communion. For the Diocese of Texas, it was a joy to host that conversation at Camp Allen.
