Faith in the Future

Our recent work with leaders throughout the diocese, diocesan staff, and two consulting firms have produced exciting insights for future mission. As a result, we are looking forward to 2030 and beyond.

We are mobilizing our people and refining our structures to support our “Bold Strategic Vision for Congregational and Mission Vitality.” (See link below.)

Two new senior staff roles—a Canon for Congregations and a Chief Operating Officer—will soon be in place to drive mission execution and foster clarity and alignment among staff and throughout the diocese.

Additionally, Task Forces comprised of lay and clergy volunteers are in formation to address areas of strategic importance: The Ethical use of AI in Ministry; School Engagement and Growth; Sustainable Church and Creation Care; Land Stewardship.

A Book of Provocations

This Book is a custom forecast created by Institute for the Future for the Diocese of Texas, looking ahead to the year 2035. Its purpose is to help church leaders anticipate and prepare for major external forces that will affect their communities over the next decade. The report’s cover design pays homage to Søren Kierkegaard’s seminal work, Provocations: Spiritual Writings.

Like Kierkegaard’s provocative philosophy that challenged institutional Christianity, this report presents future scenarios to challenge assumptions and inspire the Episcopal Diocese of Texas to discern its role amid an era rapid change.
