Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the cultures, traditions, stories, and people that enrich our communities and the life of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.
This year, Bishop Héctor Monterroso invites us to celebrate by remembering the things that connect us to our heritage — sometimes in the simplest and most unexpected ways.
For Bishop Monterroso, one of those moments came through something familiar: coffee and bread. A visit to a Guatemalan business brought back memories of Guatemala and of a tradition shared in many Latin American homes. It was a simple reminder of how a taste, a place, or an everyday moment can take us home.
Stories That Take Us Home
Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, we will share stories from members of our diocesan community and explore the memories, traditions, flavors, places, and experiences that connect them to their heritage.
Each story is different. For some, home may be found in a favorite meal or family tradition. For others, it may be a song, a celebration, a childhood memory, or something passed down from one generation to the next.
Together, these stories offer a glimpse into the many cultures and experiences that enrich our diocesan community.
