St. Thomas the Apostle, Nassau Bay, in partnership with the Talbot Fund for Racial Reconciliation and the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, will unveil EarthRise, a public art monument honoring the contributions of people of color and women to the United States space program throughout the decades.
Located near NASA’s Johnson Space Center, EarthRise celebrates individuals whose work helped shape the history of space exploration. The monument invites the community to reflect on the importance of recognition, representation, and hat becomes possible when people work together.
The Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle, Bishop of Texas, will be joined by Maj. Gen. Charlie Bolden, Nassau Bay Mayor Phil Johnston, and Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia for the dedication and blessing of the monument.
A luncheon will follow the ceremony. EarthRise shirts and die cut stickers featuring the monument will be available for those in attendance.
