The majority of its corpus originated from an estate gift from Mr. H. H. “Pete” Coffield who died in 1979.
The primary objective of the Episcopal Foundation of Texas is to support seven select institutions of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas as well as the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. These eight supported institutions are the following:
- Camp Allen (Navasota, Texas)
- Seminary of the Southwest (Austin, Texas)
- St. Stephen’s School (Austin, Texas)
- Episcopal High School (Houston, Texas)
- St. Vincent’s House (Galveston, Texas)
- El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission (Austin, Texas)
- University of the South (Sewanee, Tennessee)
- Bishop Quin Foundation (Diocese of Texas)
Grants and loans can be made to these eight institutions. The Episcopal Foundation of Texas maintains a Principal Fund that holds the investments and mineral properties (producing and non-producing), 4% of the last 12 month’s rolling average of the investments in the Principal Fund gets transferred to the foundation’s Income Fund each year. Grants and loans are made from the Income Fund.
Finally, the Episcopal Foundation of Texas makes special grants called tithe grants. Tithe Grants can support non-profit organizations located anywhere in the world as long as that entity is not a part of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. 10% of the foundation’s net income is set aside annually to support tithe grants.
