Answering the Call: Iona School for Ministry Celebrates 2025 Graduates

In a joyful and spirit-filled celebration, the Episcopal Diocese of Texas honored the eight graduates of the Iona School for Ministry’s Class of 2025 on Sunday, June 8, at a special service held at Camp Allen. This year’s graduating class includes Kim Kibby, Joey McGee, Tommy Moreland, Richard T. O’Dell, Ryan Presley, Warren Robinson, Michael Thompson, and Sheila Thrash.

The day marked the culmination of years of discernment, prayer, study, and deep commitment to lay and ordained ministry. These graduates carry powerful stories of transformation and vocation.

Sheila Thrash, one of the graduates, reflected: “I grew up hearing that girls couldn’t do this, that women couldn’t lead. But now I’ve graduated, and I’m on my way to becoming a deacon. It’s taken decades to get here—and I’m so happy I can hardly express it. Finally, women can.”

Michael Thompson, also among this year’s graduates, began the Iona journey in 2019 and shared: “It’s been a long and amazing journey. The deans, the teachers, and my classmates have all become lifelong friends. This graduation doesn’t mark an end—it’s the beginning of a whole new chapter.”

The Iona School for Ministry offers a rigorous and supportive path for those called to serve in bi-vocational priesthood, the diaconate, and lay ministry. Rooted in the mission of equipping leaders for small congregations and local communities, the program is a testament to the diocese’s commitment to forming disciples in every corner of Texas.

As Bishop Andy Doyle reminded the community: “God calls in many ways, and Iona helps us respond with faith, knowledge, and courage.”

Congratulations to the Class of 2025!
