The Episcopal Diocese of Texas congratulates Bishop Sarah Mullally on her new role as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury!

Dear friends in Christ,

Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am delighted to share with you that the Church of England has elected as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the Right Reverend Dame Sarah Mullally. This is a historic moment in the communion.

I am so very grateful for her election and ask that you will join me in prayerful celebration with the Anglican Communion worldwide.

Archbishop Mullally has served the church with compassion and clarity for many yearsโ€”as a nurse, as a bishop in the Diocese of London, and now as the spiritual leader of our Communion. Her witness to the love of Christ, her courage and leadership, and her deep commitment to the Gospel inspire hope for the future of our common life.

I am giving thanks to God for her ministry and holding her in my personal prayers with thanksgiving, asking that the Holy Spirit will continue to lead her with wisdom, patience, and joy. Please join me in prayers of gratitude for her, for her family, and for the people of God whom she will serve in this new season of her leadership.

As your diocesan bishop, I will be seeking to work with Archbishop Mullally in the years to come as we seek to proclaim Christโ€™s reconciling love in our time. Our Diocese of Texas bonds in the worldwide Anglican Communion are strong and life-giving. I trust that under the leadership of Archbishop Mullally, we will continue to deepen our common life together in generosity, mutuality, and mission.

Please be faithful in your prayers for her, steadfast in your witness to Christ, and open to the renewing work of the Spirit among us.

Yours in Christ,

C. Andrew Doyle
