A Call to Feed the Hungry: Virtual Training Kickoff with Bishop Andy Doyle

Food ministry leaders, parishioners, and community partners are invited to join Bishop Doyle for the Call to Feed the Hungry virtual training kickoff event.

This gathering will help us reflect on our role as faith leaders and on how our congregations and communities are called to respond at this moment.

Presently, religious and charitable organizations meet 10% of the food assistance needs in Texas, while SNAP provides the remaining 90%. As changes to SNAP take effect, the impact will reach far beyond individual families, affecting local economies, jobs, and communities across the state. Faith-based ministries are essential, but they cannot meet this level of need alone. That is why now is the time to help our communities understand what is at stake.

This virtual training will focus on:
• The current food insecurity landscape in Texas
• Why SNAP is essential and at risk
• How congregations and partners can organize and respond together
• Concrete actions faith communities can take now

To help increase participation in the call, a social media post is included for sharing on church platforms, along with a short message that may be shared during this Sunday’s service and a postcard for email distribution. Sharing these resources as soon as possible will help reach more people and strengthen participation in the call.
