St. John the Divine’s Loving Lamar Initiative to Host Free, Monthly Online Counseling Sessions for Parents

The Loving Lamar Initiative is continuing its support of students and parents by offering free, online parent talks each month. Each talk will be led by a licensed professional counselor from the Nick Finnegan Counseling Center and will be presented in both English and Spanish. Slides will be available after each presentation. These talks are open to all parents, whether their children attend Lamar or not. Interested parents can find links to the online program at sjd.org/loving-lamar.

The talks will occur at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month and will address the following topics:

  • Suicide and Self-Harm (10/19)
  • Let’s Talk About Sex (11/16)
  • Preparing Your Child for College (1/18)
  • Stress, Burn-Out, and Identity (2/15)
  • Navigating ADHD (3/8)

This program is part of a larger Loving Lamar Initiative focused on creating collective impact for all Lamar students through the combined efforts of multiple organizations. Loving Lamar supports student and teacher mentorship opportunities, job-related training and internships/jobs and homelessness/highly at-risk student support.
