Matthew Kim, a member of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal School Orchestra, has earned the prestigious honor of being named a Texas All-State Musician. Despite practicing and playing since March 2020 under COVID-19 restrictions, the resilient 12th grader remained strongly committed to developing his musical talents.
March 6, 2021 is the next food distribution opportunity for St Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church and the Galveston Food Bank. Located at 18300 Upper Bay Rd. in Nassau Bay, St. Thomas will offer their monthly fresh food distribution to neighbors in need throughout Nassau Bay, Webster, and Pasadena.

St. Vincent’s House (SVH) hosted a COVID-19 vaccination event reaching the most vulnerable within its underserved population. Getting 96 needles of vaccine into the arms of clients and patients meeting the IB criteria, SVH is slowing the spread of COVID-19 in Galveston and beyond. SVH partnered with UTMB, utilizing a plan that was executed by navigators and case managers who focused on vaccinating its food pantry clientele. Their appointment-only scheduling process took place through conversations between SVH staff and its clients since 48% of its client base has no access to the internet. SVH is pleased to report that 50% of people who received the vaccine were Spanish speaking.
On Feb. 3, six 12th-grade Spartans signed National Letters of Intent to continue their sport collegiately next fall. Athletic Director Jon McCain was thrilled that all of the hard work of these student-athletes has paid off.
“These athletes have not only dedicated their time and energy to performing well in classrooms on The Hill, but they also committed fully to their athletic development,” McCain remarked. “They have worked hard to earn every opportunity that lies before them โ— and are completely deserving of all of it.”

The Episcopal Diocese of Texas connected St. Luke’s Episcopal Health with Texas Southern University to open a COVID-19 vaccination hub in the historically-underserved Third Ward community. Just steps away from St. Luke the Evangelist Episcopal Church, and blocks away from St. James’, Houston, the clinic officially opened this week and a press conference was held today.
Plum Grove Church Plant held its first Spanish language service on Sunday, February 7, led by William (Will) Llana. The service took place in a brand new community center, and members of St. Stephen’s, Liberty, including their Senior Warden and the County Judge brought liturgical vessels as a gift for the new community. St. Stephen’s rector, the Rev. Ted Smith, personally donated materials he used when he was a church planter over 20 years ago.
On Thursday, January 28, the Pearland Chamber of Commerce recognized the Rev. Jim Liberatore as its 2020 Citizen of the Year. This is their most prestigious award given to an individual.
