Saint Isidore passes fundraising goal, will keep food pantry

Going into 2021, the Abundant Harvest Kitchen of Saint Isidore Episcopal Church needed to raise $50,000 to keep its food pantry running into the new year. After a Giving Tuesday fundraiser, the kitchen ended up raising $10,000 more than its goal.

All of the money will be invested back int the food pantry, which fed up to 800 families a week last year. With the extra $10,000, Jeremy Hall, the kitchen’s executive director, said they expect to be able to feed about 500 more families.

St. John the Divine Offers Health Disparities Webinar Series

The pandemic has shone a light on the pre-existing problem of health disparity. In this webinar series, learn about what health disparities are, the consequences of living with stressors including long-term poverty, and what we can do to address it. Faculty from the University of Houston College of Medicine will present an overview of health disparities and consequent adverse outcomes common among lower socio-economic groups in Houston and across the United States. In addition, the Executive Director of the Episcopal Health Foundation will review current interventions and potential strategies intended to address social determinants of health (SDOH) underlying these disparities. Finally, ways in which the Church can engage the Community will be considered.

Christ Church Cathedral to Host Racial Reconciliation Conference in February

February 19‚Äö√Ñ√¨20, 2021, Christ Church Cathedral Episcopal Church in Houston is hosting a conference titled Racial Reconciliation and the Baptismal Covenant: Striving for Justice and Peace Among All People. The conference will include award-winning and inspiring speakers of both local and national note. This virtual conference is hosted by the Cathedral’s Justice & Peace Council, and will be held online via Zoom and Facebook Premiere. It is free, and open to all.

Trinity, Marshall, Calls New Priest

Marshall, Texas ‚Äö√Ñ√¨ The Rev. Sean Duncan has accepted the call as rector of Trinity, Marshall. Duncan joins Trinity from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he currently serves as assistant priest. His first service will be on Sunday, December 20. In an introductory video to the parish, Duncan stated, “We are overjoyed and we are excited to be able to be with you all and to see the ways that God has been working and will continue to work at Trinity Episcopal Church.”

After more than twelve years of service as Archdeacon for the Diocese of Texas, the Venerable Russ Oechsel, Jr. is saying goodbye to that position. During his ministry, Oechsel has not only helped amplify the growth in the formation of deacons, but he has also helped the most vulnerable after being devastated by natural disasters in Texas and across the country.
