Houston, Texas –The Episcopal Diocese of Texas expresses deep concern and calls for action following the detention of one of its priests, a legally employed Kenyan clergy member who works for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). The priest, who has lived and worked lawfully in Texas, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last Saturday while returning home from work. After several days of uncertainty, his family was able to confirm that he was transferred to an immigration detention center in Conroe, Texas. Since his detention, he has spoken with his family.
